Default Proair DC roof top A/C package unit

https://proairllc.com/system/

Just saw this on a YT video at BUSCON in Terriuhut Indiana. Guy said the compressor was off a Prius. 20,000 BTU , 500 CFM 12/24 volts DC. In 100' weather it draws 100 amps @12 VDC. Not something for solar, but could run off the battries while cruising maybe?

I'd be more inclined to use a newer "inverter style" compressor that slowly ramps up. Using AC power over DC would be preferred. 10A is nothing for an inverter- as long as there is not a momentary startup 60-A "hammer" from the compressor.

Yeeeeah I don't think the Proair guy knows anything technical. The Prius A/C compressor runs at full hybrid battery voltage, which is around 200Vdc. Sure you could run it from 12v, but that's pointless and inefficient. You could just buy a brushless DC (variable speed) 12/24v compressor from any manufacturer out there and use it. Any RV rooftop air manufacturer could make this switch, but they don't.
