Default Progressive Industries EMS

I don't remember who put together the group buy for the Progressive Industries EMS back in early 2007, but thank you!

It has warned me and shut off power numerous times beofre for low voltage and high hertz, but it probably saved me expensive problems today.

I pulled into Valley of the Rouge Oregon state park today, and hooked up the 50 amp.

The EMS did not let power thru to the coach, 118 volts on line 1, 5 volts on line 2. Also saw the ground fault for a few moments. The 30 amp receptacle is showing clean, and the 20 amp outlet is clean. I tested with my digital volt meter as well on the 30 amp and 20 amp to be sure.

I let the rangers know at the entry point and they said someone would come by. 4 hours later, and still no one here. May be Tuesday before they show up and I can live with that (I'll remind them Monday).

I'm hooked up on the 30 amp and trusting the EMS if it ground faults.

The 50 amp leg 2 at 5 volts may have done some damage without the EMS shutting power out and telling me the problem via code. Whoever did the group buy - thank you.

Happy 4th!

To add more info, you can also check receptacles with a digital volt meter before plugging the coach in.

You use a digital volt meter set to higher volts than you are testing. When testing a 20 amp or 30 amp outlet, set to greater than 120 volts (probably 200 volts on meter).

When testing both "hots" on a 50 amp outlet, set volt meter higher than 240 volts (probably 800 or 1000 on meter).

http://www.myrv.us/electric/Pg/testing.htm may help visualize it.
Another: http://rvforum.net/joomla/index.php?option...s&Itemid=45
Check the 20 amp: http://www.rverscorner.com/rvshocking.html

YouTube 50 amp test video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cs8FxyvahDM

DRY HANDS and DRY FEET TO TEST, hold the plastic part of the tester.

Good thing about the EMS is it does the testing for you. But sometimes you have to prove to the campground owner the receptacle is bad, not the coach. Easiest way is to show them via the digital volt meter.

What, a Progressive EMS?

Yes, I'm interested.

Just talked with Randy and he still has the HW50C hardwire unit I put in my 94. It is for sale. I have a brand new set of set-screws for it that I'll send to whoever buys it. These are the locking set screws that tighten down on the cables and complete the electrical connection. The originals screwdriver slots are a little mangled. I loved the unit and have bought a new one for my 99.
