Default M380 Lithium

Time for new batteries. I think I want to go lithium. I read most of the thread by Randy and others. Seems they used batteries from Balgon. There is a company www.lithiumion-batteries.com making a 'Smart Battery' battery that looks like it would work in a 380s battery box. Anybody done this or looked into it.
Thanks

Gary,

Since my e-mail reply to you last night, I have done a little more research on the "smart battery web site". It would seem that their claim of 100% discharge comes with the penalty of only 100 cycle life span. So it would seem that the 70% discharge capability that Balgon claims is more realistic if you want to get the longer life that the Lithium batterys promise.

You are right, it would appear that the SB300 would be a perfect fit for the M380 battery box. However, using a 70% capacity, the SB300 would only provide a usable 240 ah. So to meet (exceed really) the 300 ah usable of the current 3 ea 4D AGM's, you would need 2 ea of the SB300.

From my viewpoint the advantages of the Lithium batteries over AGM's is the weight reduction and the ability to charge at a much higher rate. The weight reduction is good and the higher charging rate will reduce the generator time (if you have a charger that will put out the higher rate).

The major disadvantage (at least to those of us of limited means) is the relative cost. Two SB300 at Smart Batteries list price would be almost $7,000.

Currently I am considering replacing my 3 lifeline 4D's with 6 GC2 or equivelent golf cart AGM's. This will give the equal approx 600 ah rated and 300 ah of usable power. From my recent experience, 300 to 400 ah of usable capacity is plenty to run my M380 overnight with the residential refrigerator. leaving plenty of reserve. It appears the cost of this will vary between $1,200 (Samsclub) and $1,800 (lifeline).

Keep digging Gary you can find a lot better setups then the one you are looking at. It is not an easy process there is a large learning curve. I have lithium and I would not go back to lead even if someone gave them to me.

Assuming that I had that kind of money available for batteries, and also assuming I replaced my entire battery bank every 3 years, that 7-grand would last me about 21 years, and I'll be long dead and buried by then!

There is an upside to everything.
Consider the bragging rights
"I have $7K tied up in batteries"
"My wallet is thinner than yours"

This couple has done a lot of research on lithium batteries. They installed a system in their bus.

Thanks to all for your help. I was really interested in something that would work in the stock battery box. I pretty well use all of all of the other space in the bus, and the stock battery box is well placed. Plus I'm not looking for a project. I'm going to stick with another set of Lifelines this time. In four or five years Lithium, or who knows what, will be well sorted and probably much cheaper.

Anybody have a source for a good deal on Lifelines?
