The letter "I" was not used to determine the year to avoid confusion with the number "1".

Hi David,

Sorry I confused you. I posted examples of the 10th character for the time frame of Harry's coach. I didn't take into account that someone might try to decode a later VIN number based on that little bit of information.

Here's a link to a post I made back in 2008 that gives the complete listing:

http://www.wanderlodgeownersgroup.co...15&postcount=2

Edit - I decided to just repost the information here:

The 10th character of the VIN is the year code:

A = 1980
B = 1981
C = 1982
D = 1983
E = 1984
F = 1985
G = 1986
H = 1987
J = 1988
K = 1989
L = 1990
M = 1991
N = 1992
P = 1993
R = 1994
S = 1995
T = 1996
V = 1997
W = 1998
X = 1999
Y = 2000
1 = 2001
2 = 2002
3 = 2003
4 = 2004
5 = 2005
6 = 2006
7 = 2007
8 = 2008
9 = 2009
It repeats after 30 years so:
A = 2010, etc.

NOTE: 17-digit VIN wasn't mandatory until 1981

WOW.. look at all those numbers! I'm content with my 5 digit VIN.

So is there a breakdown of any other digits in the "real" VINs?

Is there a way to determine the model (length/width/configuration/etc) from a vin number?
