Default Ca. EGR 3208 NA engine?

I was reviewing the historical documents I received with my 1978 FC. I knew the injectors had been changed and I wanted to see what they were replaced with. I get 8 to 8.3 MPG with a 4:88 rear end. The part number on the receipt is 9N-3299, which is a California EGR part number. (California low emmission (Exhaust Gas Recurculation)). The coach owner had the work done in Florida and he was from New York. Could this be why I get lower mileage than many other people report on an FC 33 NA engine?

From what I have read the engine is only 200 HP wiht the EGR system. I don't know how to tell if the engine actually is a California model, the serial number is 40S67692 Family 3 3208 210 HP from the original paperwork from BB.

I would first find the Arrangement number Finding The Cat 3208 Engine Serial And Arrangement Numbers and have that information along with your serial number and then call the CATERPILLAR ENGINE CALL CENTER
you can find that information on the forum at Caterpillar Rv Engines

I have gotten information about the CAT 3208 engine by calling them, even though it is no longer used in RV's.

John,
I will get the arrangement number tomorrow and check with CAT on Monday. I just wonder what is different on a Ca. engine and if it can be removed and restored to 210 HP. It may not be worth the effort, but when did that stop a bird owner before?

An intact low emission system will have a complicated looking apparatus attached to the road side exhaust manifold. It would be good to lose it, if possible.

Mike,
I don't recall seeing anything like that, but I will look again. I am guessing that the tech that replaced the injectors just used the wrong ones.

I looked all over the plate on the valve cover, but found nothing like an arrangement number. It has the serial number, hp, at 2800 rpm, etc. What does the arrangement number look like?

Hi Gardner,

I did a cutout of one of the photos on the location of the serial and arrangement numbers that isn't the clearest view, but will still give you an idea of where my SERIAL and ARRANGEMENT numbers are located on the engine identification plate.

I hope that this helps.

John,
Now I know where it should be, but there are no numbers stamped in the row below the serial number. The manufacture date is November of 77. I need to take a digital photo of the plate to be sure what is there. It is tough to read with a flashlight while holding the radiator hose and air intake out of the way. I thought I saw a 4 in the space, but after wiping the grease off I didn't see anything. I hope it was stamped and not printed!
