Not sure this will be 100% correct but on my '93 you need to find the thermostat in the kitchen. There should be a top lever to move to the temp desired. Then a knob below that that goes from Heat, Cool, and Off. Set that to Cool and lower the temp until it comes on. You will also need to open the cover and open up the two levers to open the louvers, on the fan itself. Hope this helps.

Your signature does not specify coach type (FC, PT).

There are two controls on a Kool-a-Matic.

1: In an FC a wall thermostat for the LP Suburban heater does double duty. Set to HEAT...it controls the furnace. Set to COOL...it controls the Kool-a-matic: with the other switch set to ON it should run. Set to AUTO the thermostat setting controls the fan.

2: On the interior Kool-a-Matic fan register there is either a knob that selects OFF/HI/MED/LO or a hole...behind the hole is the selector switch.

Default Fantastic Fan

The motor on the Kool-a-matic on our SP36 is starting to squeek so I'm thinking a replacement will be in the works soon. I only see 14" square Fantastic fans, so I'm assuming the Kool-a-Matic is the same size? Do you suggest wiring it through the thermostat like the K-A-M? I'm thinking the auto open one wired to the thermostat would be the best one, probably with a Maxxair cover.

If you want to really move air...keep the Kool-a-matic. Might try this...it's still going strong and silent:

**Added:

I did relube motor in place about 2 years ago. Used 3in1 oil down the shaft. Did not have to remove motor.

As to air leakage when vent louvers are closed: our coach came with 3 or so vinyl snap on covers for our other roof vents. When used in conjunction with a panel of cut to size Reflectix they do a great job of insulation. What I did for the Kool-a-matic is just add snap fittings to the corners of the OEM metal louvers. The BB vinyl covers now fit the K-a-m fan too. Makes a huge improvement with minimal work.

I would love to find a new inside cover. The plastic slide part that covers the vent when not in use

The flat panel?
That should be easy to make.
