Default M380 - engine access under bed???

This is more curiosity than necessity, but would be nice to know.

Single slide so in-line bed. Was doing a deep clean and completely removed the plywood under the mattress. Thought it would be unfinished under the part of the plywood that’s screwed down (near the headboard), but there’s just more carpet covering everything. I’m not going to mess with the carpet just to see what’s under it, but wondering if any of you have looked? For the dual slide folks, I guess this would be under the rear closet? Not completely sure how it’s configured on your layout.

“Inquiring minds”, etc, etc, etc ...

Thanks
Jim

No intentional access provided by Blue Bird. I don't know if it would be possible to take things apart enough to get access. The M380 engine is one of the more accessible diesel pushers out there from the rear.

Thanks for the response, Don. Answer is what I suspected - I didn’t see any evidence of anything easily removable.

Default M380 - Access to Engine from Inside Hatch?

Though I’ve never tried opening it, there appears to be an access panel above the engine that is secured to the roof of the engine bay. It can be seen in the first picture below. However, Don’s correct about the engine “room” having space to work from the rear. One must be a bit of a contortionist but it can be done. I performed that feat when installing the exhaust straight pipe several years ago (YouTube video HERE) and also the engine bay ceiling mounted fire extinguisher - curses, bumps, bruises and morning after pains as expected. And yes, the bay has been cleaned up a bit since those installs .

Have received compliments from local Cummins dealer on M380 engine access versus other motorhomes.

Yeah, I was working on my bay doors today and can see what you’re talking about as I look above the engine from the chassis battery bay door. Had 500W of halogen aimed at it and can’t see any fasteners so it may be that the “cover” is tacked or glued. I have no reason to tear the BR apart just to see what’s on the other side so guess this will remain a 380 mystery!
