Default 3208T CAT lift pump

Where is the lift pump? Is it on top of the injection pump? How much lift pressure does it have? Does anyone have a schematic for the fuel lines?

The injection pump delivers high pressure fuel to the injectors , it also sucks fuel from the tank, some early Birds did not have a lift pump. If your Bird has a lift pump it is probably located near the fuel tank exit line.
If it does not have a lift pump it would be a good upgrade to add one.
A common fuel pump used by BB is a Facet # 40109, NAPA # 6101033.
It only develops about 2 to 4 psi, but is very helpful for the old 3208, & pushing fuel through the Racor filter.

Mine is in the propane tank compartment.
Turn on the ignition, you shoud be able to hear it run if electric, a bit like a sewing machine.

Here is what I did with my 'Bird that didn't come with the Facet Fuel pump.

RELOCATING THE FC SPIN ON FUEL FILTER. jpg A photo description of how I relocated the spin on fuel filter from the engine compartment to next to the Baldwin water separator filter (Similar to a RACOR) I got this idea after seeing this done by Mike Hohnstein on his similar model FC, it makes for a cleaner filter change and allows the use of a small drain pan under the filter when changing it, or a plastic coffee container works great too.

As a side note, if I were to do this over again, I would choose an electric fuel pump that will allow fuel to pass through freely in the event that it stopped working, the Carter Fuel Pump model that I use does not allow fuel to do that and if it stops working the CAT will not be able to suck fuel and you are dead in the water, Randy and I eventually made a bypass hose and valve that will take care of this problem in the event that it should ever happen again.

If you haven't already looked through my photo web site, you may want to do so there are many things in there that will help you with your FC and CAT engine, you can find it through the link in my signature below.

Thanks for all the replies. I have put on an electric lift pump that will allow for flow-through even if it is not working. When I put it on, I noticed that fuel came through the generator line--so the generator and engine must share the line instead of having 2 separate lines. How can I get access to the top of the fuel tank? I was thinking of cutting a hole through the bedroom floor.

look under the carpet, there's a hole already there. Use the search function for details

My 1980 has a corner bed. If I remove the mattress and open the large drawer beneath a metal plate is exposed that covers the fuel connections to the tank, the metal plate seems to be an electrical job box cover.

This is where you need the exact model of FC35 that you have as it makes a big difference on where the sending unit and top of the fuel tank are located, so add the model to your signature and we can further help you.
