Default Surging cruise control

The cruise wants to surge most of the time. If I keep reseting it, it will eventually operate normally. Any help would be appreciated.

Greg, I remember reading a post on the Vintage site. (http://www.vintagebirds.com/). It is about haalf way down the list under "Fixes". Post was by a Frank Steltz. Sounds similar to what you are describing but this was on an 86 PT 40. Deals withh air actuated cruise controls. Maybe it will help.

If this is the Bendix Cruise Control, cleaning the CC-5 air cylinder will likely smooth the operation. A kit may still be available from Seattle Brake & Clutch.

Shane and Marcus did this job recently and they may have the info.

I ordered the kit from find it parts, but they called yesterday and said kit is no longer available. The owners manual says to hold the switch down for 2 secs. I was just pushing the button and not holding it, maybe thats all it is. As I can get it to work if I keep reseting it.

Just a thought:

Check your actual supplied voltage at the control unit. A common issue is the OEM wiring presents low voltage to the unit...age, old poor connections & old switches just combine and the end result is erratic operation.

I had some symptoms like this and a relay install fixed it. Similar "fix" to adding a headlight relay.
