Tommy, this is just a broad statement on my part and not pointed at anyone in particular...

John mellowed over the last few/several years. We had many conversations about people, places and things and in all fairness, he really had pretty thick skin as in he didn't let his outward, fatherly "crust" dictate who he was on the inside. I would tell my church congregation every now and then that "I loved everyone of them but some of ya'll I wouldn't want to go on vacation with, nor you with me" I believe we all fit into that mindset from time to time? Geeze, I have a hard time traveling with myself

Years ago I read that the true definition of a friend is this: "Someone who likes you in spite of yourself", har! I think what you are trying to say is how amazing friendship is even including the crust Blessings

This is a sad time for WOG. John was a friend to all. Fond memories of John and driving very early in the morning for him to pickup donuts for WOG. For those that might not know, John furnished and sponsored the donuts in Pine Mountain from the very beginning.

RIP John.

Was very saddened to learn of John's passing.
In years of having my bird, John's diagrams and how to's have been my turn to guides for fixing, understanding so many things.... thank goodness his knowledge lives on thru WOG.

RIP John, you have been an inspiration to many, a friend to all...
you will be missed and leave a big hole in the hearts of many.
Fair thee well

Very big loss for all of us. The last time I saw John was a year ago. I was traveling westbound on I-90 near Moscow, IA. In a rest area on eastbound side I saw what I thought was a familiar bus and made a u-turn at the next exit. Turns out that yes it was John. John had a five gallon can of diesel he was trying to fill his generator with. I asked if I could help him but you know, John being John, he wants to do it himself. Of course his Parkinson’s was acting up that day and there was quite a lot of fuel spilled on the asphalt. John empties the can, looks up at me and says, “Well, I must have gotten some in there”. All we could do is laugh. I always though he had a great sense of humor. Godspeed my friend.
