Default BBQ'ed Bird, and the insurance co. round one.

Today the fire inspector from the insurance co. showed up,he was early!
Thats good,it looked like rain.

So,we go through the whole thing, how the first fire started until the last firetruck left the yard, late that night.
After the story was told he said "the 2nd fire was a flare up".
Lets look at what caused the first fire,he got his flashlight and started looking in the front bay, where the fire started.
after 3-4 minutes he says hes found where it started.
He gets a wrench and removed a power cable and pulls on it,the cable is welded to A bracket!!
What happen is this, the cable went up and over a bracket,(the bracket has a smooth bend, not a sharp bend),where the cable was rubbing on the bend of the bracket the cable insulation had rubbed through, the copper cable had shorted to the bracket and welded itself to it,a dead short.
He jerked the cable off and theres a spot of copper still stuck on the bracket, and the cable is burned almost halfway through.
We do have pics of the cable and the bracket, maybe I can get them on here tonight.

Randy,
It is good to hear the investigator determined the second fire was a flare up and not suspicious in any way. Don't forget that your home-owners insurance may cover some of the contents that the RV insurance does not.

John, Randy described the wire to me today while I was looking in my genny side bay door. I think I have the same wire except mine does not travel over any bracket. I'm taking a pic tomorrow in the daylight and once Randy has confirmed it then I'll post it with a description of how different mine is.

Works for me. I've been away for a week and am so far behind, my future grandchildren will be finishing up for me. So I'm not in any hurry for more stuff to do at this point in time!

That's the truth!!! Jack and I carefully went over the wires, cables, etc in the generator slide and generator squirrel cage compartment. So far, so good. We did tie one up. I'll have to take a photo and upload it.

Randy, This maybe a stupid question but did the fire start right at that spot were the cable welded itself to the bracket or some distance away? And regardless if it did or did not is it reasonable to assume that once that short occurred fire could have broken out any where along the circuit? I am trying to understand what happened. As the cable was abraded did sparking occur producing the fire or exactly what was the series of events which resulted in the fire. Obviously flammable material is required. Did the welded cable just result in heat which started the nearest flammable source to burn? Was the bus plugged into shore power? I guess also I am wondering how the fellow could tell that the cable was not welded to the bracket as a result of the fire and not the cause. You may not be able to answer all of this. Glad at least that they could give you a definitive answer and again sorry about all of this.

Heck-man,Carol and John are working on pics as we speak, john will draw squiggly lines and arrows pointing to the different areas and where the welded cable was and where the frame got hot etc.
It will be later today before we get them on site,we have a hard day ahead putting axles in Johns trailer.
