Ryan, your post seems a bit inflammatory and rude, I would tone it down.

Crit, Sorry, I guess you missed the wink?

The point of the comment is don't be supprised if motorists in general start getting what might be considered obscure tickets as law enforcement funding gets tighter and tighter.

Maybe the "crack" joke is a bit pointed but the example being a broken law is a broken law, big or small. I couldn't imagine telling a police officer that some laws are made to be broken.

Have you ever been on highway 301 through Stark, Florida? Their police dept. will give everyone and anyone a ticket for 1 MPH over the speed limit all the time, everytime. They will give you or I a ticket without hesitation for any infraction... Length, weight, speed, lights etc. This is common knowledge here in the state for most people.

I do not wish infractions on anyone, but once again, don't be supprised as John basically said previously... their watching...

Once again Crit, No offense intended

BTW, I have never smoked a cigarette let alone crack, though sometimes my "crack" shows!

PT 42 and 24' Car Trailer

If you do the math, It's too long.

What do you do?

In my past experience it's not been much of an issue, You guys may be right about the prevailing attitude of Law Enforcements drive for new revenues. Especially the one DOT guy that wants to mess with campers.

I know it used to be $250.00 a foot over 65' in FLA. up to $1000.00 max. Plus Points on your lic.

There are Coaches with 40' Trailers behind them. They are just SCREAMING pull me over! Or do they buy the over size/over length Permits?

Checked into this and it's not cheap or convenient to acquire several state permits if you running 1000 miles from here to there and you cross several states on your trip. I guess thats why they have so many brokers to assemble your permits on line.

The permits are a usually dated and expire so you have to travel in that time frame. This take the freedom element right out of the camping equation.

Rumor has it California is very tough on over length, and we have John Finns account of getting pulled over and measured in Tejas. I never pulled the trailer behind the coach in the NE so I don't know much about that. Down in the South, it's usually, **** Boy, That's Beautiful !

I don't intend to go to Mexico so that's not a problem.

Canada I would have to modify several things to be legal in that country, not just the trailer.

By the way If I'm ever in Stark FL. it won't be of my own free will.

FLORIDA STATE PEN

This will also take the fun out of the equation.

Hey guys I have a 1986 PT36 and am planning on pulling my 24' enclosed car trailer to the races with it. The DPO has hacked up my trailer hitch to put on a smaller receiver. The local welding shop is willing to get me back in order but he would like to see what the original looked like instead of reinventing the wheel.

Could someone post some pictures of what your receiver, gussets, and chain loops look like?

Dear Steve,

The picture ain't pretty but I hope it helps... I would have gotten an underside picture but the Groucho Marx mustache is in the way

The actual hitch dimensions are; 1 1/2" thick X 5" wide. It extends out past the chrome angle bracket 5 3/4".

I have a new 20' enclosed trailer on order. It will be 8' 5" tall inside. Being my PT36 is really 35' 6" long my combined overall length will be just a few inches shy of 60'. Should keep me safe in all states

Good luck!

Is that what they all look like? That is not what I was expecting to see, I thought it would have a receiver instead of just a bar with ball hole. I guess that would by why someone messed with mine.

I had a welding shop put a 4" receiver on my FC. There is sufficient frame connected metal underneath for a competent welder to do the job. John Finn has shown his in several posts, whch also contains additional straps per John's design.

My bus looks completely different from what I have seen so far but my hitch says Blue Bird on it. Maybe the tag axle buses are different?

Here are pictures from my bus, you can see the cut the back end off the receiver and have also removed the gussets that held it.

Steve,

I have what you have underneath... The flat bar on both of mine is in fact a piece of "U" channel with a plate welded on the end so it looks solid.

Once again, I have the same bracketry as yours on my PT36. I think your hitch shop should be able to make something work that is safe.

Thanks for the pictures, they always help!

BTW, my first picture is from my 85 PT36...
