This looks like a fascinating alternative.

440's are dependable, no worse MPG than a Detroit for sure.

maybe a dinghy? like the "captain's yacht" for one of the LXi's?

Fma,s are not great units. Lots of problems. For starters due to a rear end of close to 5.12 the 440 over revs and they die quickly. Parts are all hard to find. Strange layouts. Not even close to the quality of a Bird.

so their following is solely on the oddball factor then? i've never seen one "in the fiberglass".

hard to believe someone figured out a way to kill 440's quickly, sounds like a huge oversight, unless the coaches are unreasonably heavy.

in the interest of relative fairness to most rv's: is anything really up to the quality of a bird though? I assume a quality conversion would be(liberty and the like), but the few tour coaches i've been in were basic "nice" rv junk stuffed in a prevost/MCI chassis. (winnebago bolted to a semi, lol)

I have a bigfoot camper. its phenomenal quality... but compared to the FC? its fragile garbage... as is my stucco house in the desert.

Watch out for "half time sag" in the tail of those FMCs.

Wow... so the blue area is where the "sheer plates" go to repair an inherent flaw in the design. the writer said "I could install sheer plates in a month" but instead he decided to fix it better...

they sure do look neat... over there... in someone else's garage.

Yeah, we checked out a couple of those back when. Cool units (and we were inspired by Charles Kuralt's travels) but when we saw that wrinkle in the aft "planking," we walked.

Aw, sure we do; with WOGgers, that's given. It's the "wants" that vary. An FMC, like a 'Bird and some other things (see pic), is special; if that's what you want, nothin' else will do. You just gotta' want it bad enough to deal with its demands.
