Default Brand new owner and excited to the point of sleeplessness!

Hello everyone, my wife and I are now very proud owners of a beautiful '74 Wanderlodge, with the 391 gas engine and, Allison MT40. We just bought her, but so far could not be happier with the coach!

We have been dreaming of owning a bus for about a year and have looked at many. But since we were committed to paying cash and were dealing with a limited budget, it was looking like we were going to have to compromise just too much as we shopped older worn out conversions. We had officially given up, settling for a sticks and staples motorhome... Then suddenly and unexpectedly we found this beautiful vintage Wanderlodge! We are still pinching ourselves!

Of course this bird would not appeal to everybody with the slowpoke 391 gas engine, but it suits our style just fine. When RVing, we poke along at 50mph on secondary roads by choice, reaping more mpg's and enjoying the scenery and small towns.

We bought her locally, about 60 miles from home and drove her back. She had been off the road for about 2 years, but had a lot of work done to her just before being parked, including new brakes, tires and a rebuilt Onan 6.5 Generator. Apart from needing a couple new batteries and bleeding the brakes, I see no reason why not to start enjoying her.

Any advice for a newbie would be greatly appreciated!

Marc & Dee

Marc & Dee. As Randy puts it,,, welcome to the Zoo. John is right, the best advice you could get is to attend R.A.T.S. It is close to you, Good food, Good people, A Good time, and answers to the questions you have about your Bird.

Marc,

Welcome! like the man said, enjoy her!
but you might want to look at a good sams or coachnet roadside assistance policy.
best $100 you'll spend

Welcome to the zoo. Birds are addicting arn't they?

I would start with a couple of small local camping trips to check out and learn the systems. Once you are comfortable with driving and using the systems then branch out to bigger trips as you want.

Enjoy the ride. Also be prepared for curious fellow campers.

That's part of the fun, isn't it! We also have a 1964 canned ham camper and we have gotten a lot of curiosity seekers on that, even getting gas.

Sounds like there is a great community of Wanderlodge owners out there, like the Bus community in general. I must say, though, that people here seem a lot more down-to-earth than on other sites.
