Default Mount Rushmore?

We are going to the FMCA Convention in Gillette, WY in June. On the way back we are going to go by way of Devils Tower, Deadwood, Sturgis, and then stop and see Mount Rushmore. Any recommendations and/or comments on camp grounds adjacent to Mount Rushmore?

I am staying at www.elkhornridgervresort.com at Spearfish SD, near the end of June. I will be attending a Newell get together. The resort looks very nice, and is recommended by the Newell group. It is approx 50 miles from Mt Rushmore, and we plan on taking an afternoon to go there with the jeep.
Hope this helps.

Elkhorn is a new and very nice camp ground and it is handy for taking day trips to the places you wish to go. It is a real pain to take anything over 30 feet to Devils tower or Rushmore. There is also Keyhole lake (State run Campground ) that is close to Devils tower if you are planing on spending a few days in that area. There is also Sheridan lake (State campground) between Rapid City and Rushmore it is about 25 miles from Deadwood and 25 miles from Rushmore. Plus there are dozens of smaller camp grounds in the area. See you at the Convention. Last year there were only two birds at the Gillette convention us and Gordan Ramsey

I stayed at Angostura State Recreational Area just outside of Hot Springs, while we rode our bikes throughout the area, including stops at Deadwood, SD and the Crazy Horse Monument along with the numerous state and federal parks in the area.

Thanks, all.....

We are going to stay at the Elkhorn Ridge RV Resort and drive the toad to the interesting points. At 30+ mpg it makes a lot more sense to leave the coach parked somewhere close to an Interstate.

We will make a day trip to see Devil's Tower during the convention. In the 80's I looked at and wished for, a lot of different coaches at the FMCA conventions. This time I go as a very satisfied owner, (I have what I had always wanted) so I think I will see all there is to see in at most, a day and a half.

And now I have another question: Leaving Spearfish I can go down US 18 and pick up IH 25 at Douglas or back to Gillette on IH 90 then down to Douglas on WY 59 - one of those two routes is probably better driving. About a 50 mile difference, but time and distance take 2nd and 3rd place behind COMFORT as far as I'm concerned. Any preference here?

It was several years ago, and we didn't have the Bird yet, but we stayed here and had a very nice experience:

Another place close to Rushmore is Hart Ranch. Paved raods, full concrete site pads, fuel station and repair shop. If you take the sales tour you can get 3 nights for $15 a night.
