Default Off-Rpading Near Quartzsite

Mention this one earlier and thought I'd post details while I remember it.

If you enjoy off-roading and are in the Quartzsite, AZ area, as many are in late January, here's an interesting day trip.

It takes you to the top of Mt. Haraquahaha which is about 65 miles up Hwy 60. You turn off 60 on to Eagle Eye Rd at Aguila, AZ. go south to Sunset Canyon Rd, head west up the road from there.

There's an old stamping mill, a gold mine and at the top of the mountain there's an old observatory put up by the Univ. of AZ. The view at the top is spectacular. Going up is about 12 miles of pretty tough 4 wheeling, we did it in a Jeep GC and it was really no problem, that said I wouldn't try it with anything less capable than that. Low range makes coming down a lot easier.

The GPS coordinates for the top of the mountain are N33 48.71 W113 20.77

If you go be sure to have 3 or more vehicles, bring lots of water and be sure your tires are in good shape.

Lance and Jan. Thank you for the posting. Sounds Interesting!

Fred, your assignment is to document exactly how the Q 2010 folks get from the Q 2010 nesting area to the site. I'm sure someone(s) will volunteer to lead a group. Any Q 2010 volunteers? Thanks Fred.

Forgot the most important part of this trip. As you go east on 60 there use to be a great donut shop at Salome (?). It's on the north side of the road and good stop for fortifcation for the rest of the trip and a chance to drain morning coffee. I may have the town wrong, so check each of the small towns you go through.
