Default Rotted wire...

Dug a little deeper into the INOP right AC meter up front.

I opened up the main control panel and decided to remove the back of the AC meter enclosure and found all of the wires severely rotted. The picture is after the removal of one legs wiring.

I had discovered the same rotten wire up front at the meters as well in an earlier investigation. I guess the SOOH cable is shot from front to back and will be replaced soon.

I have yet to get to the bottom of the right INOP gauge???

Just for clarity, the insulation is deteriorated and falling off what looks like a white layer of some sort??? That white layer is actually the bare copper wire

Interesting thing is there is virtually no load in this system so heat really is not a factor in it rotting apart. I guess just defctive wire?

Ryan I have an idea that what has happened is a mouse problem. Notice the outer layer of the asphaltum wire loom that is eaten off and a small piece is left on the left most wire? If you pull the wires off and disconnect the adapter and peel back the wires you should find perfect wires. I have yet to find any deteriorated wires either in the 1985 PT40 that I now have or my previous 1982 FC35. Just get a little more good wire exposed and then splice on to it with some good wire.

As to the right AC meter. Do you have a circuit breaker off? Or are you connected to shore power using a 30A cord?

Hey Tom,

Actually there is a complete cover over this area so no rodent could have gotten into it.

That particular run of SOW cable is rotting from front to back. Really is Bad cable. We cut it back well into "fresh" black insulation and the inner individual wire insulation was rotted from within.

The fresh looking insulation is from it being wiggled upon disassembly and crumbling before our very eyes!

The bus is hooked up to 50 amp service and having just been completely through the main panel no breakers are tripped.

All circuits work in the coach except the one meter of which I have read that several of PT owners have the same issue... 1 inop gauge?

How did your rally go? Did ya'll get to scope generators for wave form comparisons??
