Depending on the brand, lead/acid batteries need both the bulk and absorbtion voltage between 14.4 to 15 volts (some are even a little higher)

Typical alternator is set by the regulator to 14.4 volts.

Espar and Webasto heaters have the high voltage shut down programmed into the ecm at 16 volts.

The higher the voltage, less current is drawn.

Example.(simplified)

Load rating of 10 amps at 10 volts..power drawn is 100 watts.

Increase that voltage to 20 volts the current is then 5 amps.
