We waited for hours to get across the river.
We got to the ferry at 9am and the last one of us got over at 2;30.
Thomas was last, luck of the draw.
Just as he was next to load the fuel truck came up to refuel the ferry.
The truck has to back up onto the ferry, drop his fuel and then drive off the ferry.
It was not a problem,we really enjoyed the whole thing.
Commercial trucks and tour buses have the right of way,so anytime a truck or bus showed up they went first, cars were 2nd,RV's were last.
The double trailer tankers take the ride all by themselves,no cars,no bikes,no people.

The loading are is dirt,no pavement,no pilings.
The ferry operator knows how to dock into the dirt, and theres a bulldozer and a frontend loader running all most all the time rebuilding the loading area.
The river and the boat are continually washing away the loading area.
Dump trucks full of gravel run non-stop,bringing gravel to the site.

1- the loading area
2-Brookshires loading
3-the loading area, the ramp goes here.
4-My coach loading
5-My coach loading
6-the loading area from the side
7-loading

Well Randy now that my wife saw the ferry ride plus some of the bridges my guess is that I won't be seeing Alaska from our Blue Bird.
Safe travels buddy

Hey Randy, can you clarify the ferry crossing? Is that necessary to do the ALCAN or is that a side trip? I don't remember a ferry when we drove it 30+ years ago, but things can change.

The ferry is at Dawson (also called Dawson City), which is over 300 miles north of Whitehorse and is the site of the Klondike gold rush. Very interesting side trip, and then after the ferry you drive the "Top of the world" highway in to Alaska and the town of Chicken (supposedly called that because they couldn't spell Ptarmigan), then back down to the Alaska Highway at Tok.

AS Don said it was a long sidetrip, worth every mile!
Butch,we ran through a construction area where they were rebuilding a bridge,we drove across a temporary steel bridge that was about 112'' wide.
I was running tail gunner position,Cliff was ahead of me and i swear that there was only an inch between his bay doors and the steel bridge,on each side!
I closed my eyes and followed Cliff across!
4 Birds, all 102'' wide went across this narrow bridge,no damage.
We talked to a guy a few days later that saw us cross,he tore his step off his coach on the same bridge.

That brings up some funny stories, almost everywhere we go we see people and RV's that have been in a town where we have been.
In Watson lake a guy was walking his dog and we got to talking,i was wearing my Wanderlodge hat (thanks Jim) and he said "your one of the four?"
The four Birds running together?
I told him "yes".
He said he was behind us coming into Canada,he watched us all drive right through,no problems with customs.
He was thinking it was going to be easy for him too.
Instead they held him up for 2 hours, searching his coach!

Most of you know we have a white female shepard,we walk her all the time and she hates other dogs.
We warn everybody we see with a dog to stay back.
I am hearing people say while walking there dogs "stay back, theres that white dog"!

People know we are in Birds,we had a guy come up to us in the parking lot of the Canadian superstore and tell us he had been on WOG and BBBB and he was shopping for a bird, this was in Whitehorse.

Other people tell us they were in a certain p[lace when we were there, these people are driving other brands,5th wheels etc.
They all see us.

We spent last night at the Alaskan pipeline.
Its a beautiful sight, built by Americans in less than 3 years,800 miles across the mountains and rivers of Alaska,9 million barrels of oil in it.
Theres a boat ramp here at the river crossing, since it never gets dark theres no steady action,no big rush to get home,so theres no funny stories to report about boat ramp disasters!

I hear there is an APB out statewide in Alaska directed at the grizzly bear population warning them to watch out for a white domesticated shepard traveling the countryside in a fancy gold RV

we are camping in the rv park at the city park in Fairbanks,we watched a guy wash his clothes in a faucet and then dry them on the limbs of a tree while he sleeps on the grass.
We also have some pics of some walmart squatters that you might like.

1-4 is the guy at the park.
5-6 is trailers at the Whitehorse walmart, there was a few more but these stood out to me.
