I called Parker Racor this afternoon and they said they have received many calls this winter with the same problem. An indication of the severity of the winter, or maybe a change in the formulation of diesel fuel?

I own a small trucking company in ND. We get cold! Even with a 50-50 blend of #1, or even more, when it gets cold out, our fuel gauges ALWAYS move up, quite often into the red. The engines are still running fine, so the cold fuel DOES have more resistance to move, even though it is NOT plugging up the filter.
I would say "normal" for what you experienced. We always change out fuel filters going into winter though, just to make sure they are clean.

In the teens here lately and who knows with the wind chill. Had the Bird out today and noticed our guage was in the red driving it. Just did an 1800 mile road trip this past week and it was in the normal range, but today it wasn't. Do you think it's just the cold? Should we change it? We want to take it down to AR for Thanksgiving. This is new to us, only have had our Bird about a week.

I use Power Service. If you elect to do the same you can get it at Wal Mart or most Truck Stops. Buy enough to threat the amount of fuel you have in the tank. Don't wait until the fuel has the chance to Gel or you will not be happy with the outcome.

Yes, good chance it is just the cold. Cold WILL move it up towards, and into, the red. It also would be a good idea to change the filter. I like to on all my diesels, going into winter.

Make sure the filter housing is full (fuel or ATF) before starting.
