Was inspecting thing in the engine compartment today and found a 2" hole and a lot of rust in the exhaust pipe. It's located where the pipe comes along the top of the engine takes it's first turn to the top. Soooo . . . let's hear any recommendations and horror stories you may have. I'm in Santa Fe right now and will probably take it to a Detroit Diesel shop in Albequerque tomorrow. I hate to drive it now but on the other hand the hole may have been there for a few thousand miles. Without looking at it they quoted about $1,000 to $1,100 to replace it. Does that seem about right? It's always someting, or so it seems. Will this be a difficult part to find? Thanks.

A truck shop will use two 90deg from the Turbo and some flex to make your pipe. The Right way is to call Stephen at Dupree. He will have the exact fit. I replaced mine with SS to the muffler and galv/alum coated muffler, and all new clamps. And the muffler from Stephen fits perfectly.
It is an easy job if you have the right stuff and have the radiator out.

If you take the floor panel out of the bed you don't need to remove the radiator. I had mine out this summer. Replace the double knuckle rusty connector with stainless flex used on trucks. I put an exhaust tube insulation sock on mine.

Ron is correct. That's how I did mine. You don't have to remove the radiator.

Thanks for everyone's thoughts/help. The new exhaust should be in Santa Fe soon. If I were at home I might try doing it myself but since I am on the road I'll have to have it installed.

All you guys that have a hole in the bedroom,, You lucky dogs. I did not have the luxury. Maybe I was lucky to have a CAC failure at the same time. But I will tell you this. The radiator remove was super easy.
I actually feed the muffler in from the bottom, easier for a one man operation. And Stephens Muffler is just small enough to go that way.

Is yours a forward facing bed or facing the passenger side like mine? I looked under my bed and could not find an access panel. Perhaps that's a difference between my 41' and your 43'? on the LXi43'?
