As you say Steve, if it comes out of the factory that way then it is ok now. Just like cars that came out of the factory without seat belts. They are 100% legal on the American highways and byways of today. They changed the law, but still permit them to be driven without a seat belt.
I agree with both of you guys, I have had a problem from time to time at the emissions inspection here in AZ with the inspectors wanting to see a 13 digit VIN. on a 1980 bus. I try to explain it to them but usually have to find the one guy in the station who was not in the E.S.L. class to tell them it is OK.
Gotta get it done tomorrow, will see what happens.

I'm not trying to put the kibosh on the mod but I'm pretty sure most (if not all) state DOT regulations call for the rear side marker lights to be RED. Short of adding a second set of side lights, I'm not sure how the mod will (legally) work with only an amber light to work with. ???

If that lens color bothers anyone the lense Can be changed to clear, green, blue or even red. These are very common lights available in untold numbers of truck stops and class 8 truck parts suppliers.

You could do that but the flasher (turn signal) requires an amber lens (or bulb).
