Default Calais to Burlington vt.

Later in August we plan to go from Calais/St. Stephen (Canadian border crossing) near the Maine shore to Burlington VT. Just wondering if anyone has some favorite places to stop/visit along the way. We plan to take the Burlington ferry over to New York State after spending some time in Burlington.

These are right nearby. Shelburne Museum is a fun day.

Also for young and old, the Vermont Teddy Bear Factory and "Hospital" has tours.

About an hour or so away is the Cabot cheese and Ben and Jerry tours. Both will take about an hour. Also, you can visit a sugar house (Maple syrup) but make sure you go to one that serves maple ice cream.

Downtown Burlington there is a street that is closed off that has a bunch of shops and restaurants. It's a couple blocks up from the lake.

I should note that we did this all from our toad. Some of the back roads are not Bird friendly.

Sorry, I misunderstood your post. Have you ever been to Echo Lake/Cannon Mountain? The 7 site RV parking is in one of the most scenic areas of Hew Hampshire. Climb to Artists Bluff for a look at New Hampshire's most photographed and painted view. Great bike trail down to the town. Nice day trip over to Mt. Washington. The RV sites are at the back of the Echo Lake beach parking lot. Busy until 4:00 or so then deserted and peaceful. Also ride the tram to the top of Cannon Mountain. From your campsite, you may see bears wandering the open ski slopes.

Yes, we have been there. Bill Garamella held a small rally there a few years ago. Too bad the old man fell off the mountain (the rock formation that is, not a real old man). I had forgotten it was kind of on the way. Thanks.

If you don't already know it, North Beach Campground is a municipal facility on Lake Champlain about 2 miles north of Burlington's central business district. Its a nice place if you can get one of the larger RV sites at the north side of the campground. Beautiful beach overlooking the Adirondacks and a paved bike path to downtown or north to the Champlain Islands. One of our favorites in the summer.

If you like history, after reaching New York, check out Fort Ticonderoga on the south end of the lake.

Joe,
we took the kids there years ago. Neat place and full of history. We have done a lot of touring of New York State, not to mention the family having 100 acres with a cabin in Johnsburg to visit. Been in the family since before the civil war.
