Default Water leak in 89 PT40 WB

Greetings from Oshkosh;

Shane and I met Chuck and Kathy Paschke, the new owners of the 1989 PT40 WB which had been for sale along US hwy 41 between Oshkosh and Green Bay. These is a very nice clean coach with relatively low miles. On Saturday Shane and I along with his friend Eric got to look the coach over and Chuck and Kathy are concerned about a water leak in the fresh water system.

The water system will not come up to pressure and while we had the water pump running water began to flood the bedroom area...appears to have a busted pipe in the vicinity of the garden tub shower area.

Can someone on the forum tell us how to access the water pipes behind the 'garden tub' to repair a leak in the piping or the fixture?

Is there a shutoff for the the water supply going to the shower?

Chuck and Kathy just joined the WOG on the 25th and have not posted yet since they are been busy trying to get their 'new' BB ready for a new full timer adventure where they will be living in the bird and travelling to different work locations. Shane gave them information on refurbished Xantrex inverter/chargers and today they are buying new CG 6V batteries to replace the old battery banks.

The ground is beginning to dry and we look forward to a good week at AorVenture 2010. Wed and Fri nites we are having Pork Butts and Brisket smoked by Shane.

Welcome aboard to Chuck & Kathy from Oshkosh, WI!!!!!

That was a nice coach. Now I know why he didn't call me back when I was driving through the area on my way back from out west, I was going to stop and look at it.

Default Plumbing issues

We recently purchased a 1989 40PT. The coach looks like a million bucks but we found out after we got it home there are some plumbing leaks. The leaks are not reachable with out doing some cutting and chopping at the garden tub where the problems are.

Is there anyone out there with ideas about how to get at the mixing valve
in the tub? The valve is the suspected leaker it is the one on the right of the tub. When I turned it turned hard and then I heard what sounded like spraying behind the tub. With all those water problems could mold eventually grow?

Thanks,
Chuck

Chuck,

Dick Gideon had already started this thread about your plumbing problem, so I moved your post over to this thread.

Welcome Chuck & Kathy,

This is the first time I have seen this leak issue posted with a Garden Tub.
Our 88 FC is very different than your PT , But there are many similarities,
We have no shut off valves to the shower/tub. If this Wi. Bird was not Winterized properly,
there are one or more cracks in the plumbing, But do not despair there is a solution.
Did Dick G. or Shane have any inputs??

someone called me a few months or maybe a year ago with a leak in the same place, maybe the same coach?
We talked about taking the fridge out and cutting a hole in the wall between the fridge and the tub.
There may already be a hole there, someone had to hook up those water lines..

Default HELP...Water leak 1989 PT40

Good points Bill Randy and all...but Shane and several more of us have Sawzall's just itching to do some demo work. Will that fiberglass destroy a Sawzall?

Can Chuck run an external water supply to the garden tub just to get on the road to their new jobs down south?

Also no water supply coming from the hot water side of any faucets. Could this be a stuck Versa Valve?

Put your thinking hats on boyz & girls...Chuck and Kathy are very close to us at Oshkosh and we can easily make another 'house call' to help these nice new owners get some use out of their disabled 1989 PT40. Water leaks are no fun!!!

Take the fridge out and cut through the wall,i bet theres already a hole there!
Heres proof that a sawzall will saw a bird up!

I agree with Randy , what is on the other side of the wall ?? Refrig, stove, cabinet???
Seems like that extra knob is to turn on the shower?? Try to take it apart , sometimes the main faucet has shut off valves in the casting, take off that circular trim plate & peak in the hole.
No hot water?? check for a PO installed HWT by-pass, Then exercise the Versa valve, or take it apart , clean and lube.
For a temporary fix, plug the hot water line at the HWT, This is really a desperate guess. maybe the split pipe is only on the hot water line side of the valve, Last possibility is the sawzall, and hope the tub can be patch repaired..

Sounds like a good plan to access the Tub/Shower plumbing from an adjacent wall...especially if an access hole is already present.

Still seeking further advice before Shane and Dick resort to drastic measures on C&K's 1989 PT40 with a water leak on or near the tub mixing valve.
