Default Extra adventures for 2017 Total Solar Eclipse Rally -- Casper, WY.

I'm starting this thread so as not to muck up the real thread about the Solar Eclipse Rally.

This is going to be out first big trip, from Americus, GA to Casper, WY. We want to make it count so we're planning on doing some other things either on the way out (before the Eclipse Rally) or after the Rally, or both. Our son and daughter in law live in Boulder, CO so we want to make that part of our trip. Other than that, we're open to suggestions and we're hoping to meet up with some folks who want to do the same. I've seen Yellowstone, but SHE hasn't. Same with the Grand Canyon.

Let's use this thread to come up with some options, both for the Millers and others.

You should probably head to Moab, UT and see Arches National Park and Canyonlands National Park. I was just there about 3 weeks ago and it was about the most beautiful scenery I had ever seen. While I haven't been to the Grand Canyon, my wife has and she thinks the scenery around Moab is much more beautiful.

If you are going to be in the Boulder/Denver area Rocky Mountain National Park is right on the way. Well worth a visit.

Were heading toward Cody afterwards. We've been to Yellowstone but plan on returning. It's a good spot for some day trips in the jeep

We're trying to keep things loose so we are pretty open. Heading south as the weather predicts for the winter.

I'm a bit of a history nut, and plan on following the Oregon trail over south pass, and then to at least "Parting of the ways". Fort Casper was a major stop for immigrants heading west.

Have you been to Pike's Peak/Garden of the Gods in Colorado? There's a pretty nice RV resort teal close to the Park http://rvcoutdoors.com/garden-of-the-gods/.
As Joatha said, there are a bunch of places near Moab. Also the drive from the Utah border along I-70 to I-15, although a bit longer than cutting up US89, has some pretty stunning scenery.
