Default Wal-Mart Selects Johnson Controls as Sole Source

Your new battery from Wal-Mart will now be a JCI...among the best in the business.

Exide was dropped as a battery supplier to Wal-Mart

Many Wanderlodge owners are running the 6V GC-2 batteries or other sizes from Sam's Club or a Wal-Mart Super Center...now you know the source/manufacturer of the batteries sold thru Wal-Mart.

That's great news Dick. My GC-2's have been good performers. About 4 years on and they still hold a nice charge. I figure that there are about 75K miles on them too! That's alot of summer heat and stress on a plain ol' golf cart battery that costs around $69. My battery temperatures regularly hit 135 in the summer. They are right above the muffler and next to the curbside exhaust manifold.

Hi Shane; in November '09 I installed 6 fresh GC-2 batteries from 'SC' and paid about $71 each. Good time to buy...the price of lead is back to a reasonable level.

Oh, the best part was the new CG-2 batt's were dated 11/09. Fresh out of the oven!! Best regards to both of you!

Gardner: I purchased my GC-2 batteries from Sam's Club (a Wal-Mart company). I have not seen the golf cart batteries in our local Wal-Mart stores. My nearest Sam's Club is about 80 miles distant. One good thing to consider...when on an extended trip, Sam's Club/Wal-Mart's are plentiful. Maybe the GC-2's will cross over to something in the WMT "Everstart" line of batteries. My experience at Sam's Club was my first time to replace the coach batteries.

My Sister wanted me to remind everyone you can order what you want at Wal Mart.com and have them shipped to your local store. They don't have to stock the item locally for you to be able to buy it.

A good friend of mine works for Exide here in Atlanta as part of their distribution group. He's now worried about his job after this announcement.

Unfortuantely, if malwart is selling a product; especially if is now due to a change in suppliers; the ONLY reason they're selling it is because it's cheaper than the previous supplier. I wouldn't be surprised to find the malwart Johnson Controls batteries are not made to the same standards as previous JCI batteries.

When it comes to most batteries with a private label the Mfr. is not important. Whether it is Exide or Johnson Control they will make batteries to any spec the purchaser requires as long as the "run" is large enough . I dont know if the following is correct but it makes sense: 6 volt GC batteries are not big sellers. This is a speciallty item. I doubt if WM or Costco or any other retail chain has them made to some special standard. I would bet that these private label units are generic. i.e Each mfr. only makes one model.
