Smile Turn signal self cancelling on '06 LXI

Our 450LXI problems are getting reduced. One left has to do with the self cancelling feature on the turn signals. Our turn signals do not cancel. I have to move the turn signal lever back to the nuetral position on every turn. It is not a big problem for me because I have gotten use to it.
Is the cancelling feature a mechanical system some where on the steering post? How would one get to that system? Maybe it is not worth the effort.
