Caterpillar 3208 Solutions This sub-forum is hosted by Mike Hohnstein who has been at this kind of thing for 50+ years now, guess I'm addicted. The saga has been all about progressively larger shop space since then. Honestly, never wanted to get into the CAT 3208's that were originally considered to be a throwaway engine but that's all that works in a FC in my world. Same thing with my Ford toter, that came with a NA, too much effort to hang in a 6, so been at it with the CAT V-8 for 20 years now. In reality you can get excellent life out of a CAT 3208 if it's built correctly. Post your questions about the CAT 3208 engines here and Mike will try to help you out.

Default Fuel leak...???

On trip out Midwest..on engine start this AM saw small dribble stream of diesel fuel coming from one of three slobber drains at engine bottom front.

I'M checking the prime & drain valve on engine now...any other thoughts???

What does this typically mean?

Engine idle ok... valley dry.

Three tubes, two from the top one from the bottom. If the leak is from the bottom, time to pull the pump.

Update & some questions. Fuel still “dribbling” from slobber tube. We’re loafing in North central Arkansas doing some crystal diggin...having fun. Bus drivable.

I called several diesel truck shops and none do in house injection pump rebuilds (like Bascomes in IA), the CAT dealers who do in-house (quicker?) really don’t seem enthusiastic to do it.

Thinking of getting home and doing the removal myself, sending it out, and reinstall. With shop manual is this feasible for a handy owner?

We are 1100 miles from home base.

I can help you two ways, drive up to Germantown and we'll pull and put, or and this a better deal, pull it when you get home and send it to my shop.
Access isn't that terrible if you pull the whole engine cover and don't attempt to work thru the little cave opening.

Frank we only met once years ago, but I have followed your repairs and posts,
You can do this and save maybe a few thousand less than hiring out the entire job.
I think I have a thread on removal and reinstallation, messy job allow a lot of time and down time.
