Question Microwave Hood Vent Install?

Somehow, the microwave hood vent cover went missing on the exterior of the slide. I ordered and received the assembly from Dan.

Has anyone replaced it? I'm looking for intel on the process... If I can just replace the cover, that might be easier. Of course, it might be easier to replace the entire assembly... If you have made this repair, let me know what I am in for.

I think replacing the unit would require pulling out the microwave. I replaced the swing out door, it’s a simple job, pay attention to how you take the flapper out of the housing, just plastic pins, and the center screw. Oh, prepaint first..

We replaced the Sharp microwave (stolen by my "friendly" dealer after the swap) with an Advantium. I haven't looked at the vent, but when they installed the new microwave, they lowered it and covered over the gap that made with a removable cover. If you think it would be useful, I'll take a look inside there and see if there's anything I can see that might help you. I presume the vent is unchanged.

I’m going to try and do the flapper swap today. I am leaving on a trip tomorrow and won’t have time to paint it, but, I want a cover on it at least. I’ll report back on my success...

It might be a small thing, but I finally installed the vent cover.

Bumping this discussion thread, as it seems to be the place where the vent damper is being discussed. My exterior damper does not open or close when the microwave vent fan is turned on / off. I have probed the two contacts on the solenoid and have no voltage between the terminals; I also checked for continuity on the solenoid and it checks out ok.

When looking at the one-line drawings, I see a "Microwave Vent Relay" in the circuit. Is this relay somewhere in the coach, or is this the fan relay within the microwave oven? I swapped out my original Sharp oven with an exact replacement, and there were no extra wires other than the 120V cord going to the oven upon removal of the original unit.

I have a memory of someone (maybe Coachcraft) asking me about that vent.
It seems like from what i remember the vent had to have a relay or something wired into the mic itself.
When the mic powered up it opened the vent.
I think in the conversation i was having the vent did not work after a new mic was installed, and the question was "where did it get its power to open".
My question back at you,is the vent 120vac or 12vdc?

My '91 doesn't have a vent, just recirculates air out the front of the micro. I've wanted to add a vent so the smoke alarm doesn't sound when I cook bacon! What sort of vent does your bus have? Is it on the roof or side? Pics would be great. I want one.

As for the relay...

The blower in the microwave is likely 120V. And that would be the obbvious trigger to run the external vent. If the vent is 12V, then I would insert a relay inside the micro cabinet that had a 120V coil. Then run two wires from the relay contacts, through the side of the micro, and use those to feed/supply 12V to the vent. That way there's no 120V outside the micro.
