Although the date for Thanksgiving changes from year to year, it is easier for me to remember Thanksgiving itself as the anniversary day of my kidney transplant that took place at the VA Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa in 1976 it became a milestone in my life and allowed me to be around for 40 more years with a lot of ups and downs during that time. during the time of the transplant and prior time on Kidney dialysis my then wife Brenda was very much a part of my initial recovery.
I encourage anyone reading this to become an organ donor, it took a family from Minnesota that donated their sons kidneys after he died, that helped to save both my life and another persons life that received the other kidney. Personally they will not take any of my organs for transplantation so I am a total body donor, in hopes that medical students in the future can use it during their education.

Great suggestion John, I chose to be a donor just the other day during my driver's license renewal. It's inspiring to hear from a real-life beneficiary.

Happy Thanksgiving!
