McMaster calls it "Self-Lock Mushroom-Head Fasteners"

PS, I only used the Bondo to reinforce the wimpy attachment of the studs which mate to the white plastic rods. Slid a fender washer down the stud with a little Bondo underneath it. One of the studs had come loose on the unit that flew off, and also one on the one I still have.

Like some others I checked the other headlight cover and found it was also loose. Yesterday I took it off and found the adhesive had failed yet again. Here's a few pics of what I found and what I hope is a final fix

#1 This is the inner liner and the glue has stuck to it very well. However, the glue did not seem to adhere to the outer liner resulting in failure. In some areas you can see the glue bead never even made contact with the outer liner.

#2 This is the outer skin with little to no glue adhesion. Lenses also popped out easily.

#3 Outer skin cleaned up nicely with just a simpler putty knife.

#4 13/16" socket modified with Dremel to help me reach and remove the T-Bolts that hold the whole headlight cover assembly to the bus body

#5 T-Bolt

#6 Ready for re-installation

#7 Lenses re-installed with Sikaflex 221

#8 Buzzed the hard glue off the inner liner with angle grinder (carefully).

#9 Inner liner attached to outer skin. Ran out of Sikaflex 221 but when I described the job I was doing to the local Sikaflex dealer he recommended Sikabond as an even better option. His supply of 221 was one month from expiration.

#10 Sikabond

Makes sense Morey. I like the fender washer idea.

Slim. I'm assuming the Rt side is the passenger side. do yours fit a 99 LXI? Mines are black but the passenger side one is begging to crack. I have not attempted to remove it yet. If you do have one could PM me or contact me and let me know the cost if your willing to sell one?

Can text or call at 712 330-0987

I'm not Slim, but his post was years ago,he no longer has a bird.
But i have replacement covers, one piece fiberglass.
You have to paint them, and cut the light holes.
This gives you the option to use different lights or?
$400 per set.
