Default Fuel Milage

I'll start another one. Someone tell me if I'm doing this wrong. I did a search on the site but it didn't come up with anything.

What kind of mileage can I expect with a Bird. What about 3208 VS 8V92.

Thanks

Doug

There are too many variables to take into consideration here to get an accurate comparison, such as drivers driving habits, terrain, weather conditions, etc. My '82FC35RB with a CAT 3208 Turbo 215 hp pulling an enclosed auto carrier trailer with a gross combined weight of 42880# gets on the average 5 mpg, I normally drive 62-64 mph. there are different versions of the CAT 3208 so that has to be taken into consideration too. The 8V92 Detroit is a whole different animal, it is like comparing apples to oranges and also comes in different model Wanderlodges and horsepower ratings.

Probably the best response that I ever heard to the mileage question came from a salesman that I overheard years ago when he was showing a customer a Wanderlodge and that was "If have ask that question (about mileage).........you probably can't afford it"

My old 3208 natural FC did 8 and it was never in a hurry, 0 to 60== 5 miles. I loved that old bird.

We don't have a Cat or Detroit , but our 8.3 Cummins averages 8.5 mpg . We always are towing the jeep on a car hauler running between 60 and 65 mph with a total combined weight of about 40,000 lbs.

All drivers and birds are different, however here are our approximate numbers over 15 years and 3 birds.
89 SP-36. 7mpg
2004 M-380 8 to 9 mpg
2001 LXI. So far 7 mpg

I get in the 6's with our 1990 8V92, running about 65. With the 300 gallon tank, it takes a LOT of miles to really get a good handle on it. That is with genny running most of the time too, including ALL genny use.

I get about 10 mpg if I'm not towing, 7 if I'm towing a Honda CRV. Generally 57-60 mph. Generator has a separate fuel tank.
