Caterpillar 3208 Solutions This sub-forum is hosted by Mike Hohnstein who has been at this kind of thing for 50+ years now, guess I'm addicted. The saga has been all about progressively larger shop space since then. Honestly, never wanted to get into the CAT 3208's that were originally considered to be a throwaway engine but that's all that works in a FC in my world. Same thing with my Ford toter, that came with a NA, too much effort to hang in a 6, so been at it with the CAT V-8 for 20 years now. In reality you can get excellent life out of a CAT 3208 if it's built correctly. Post your questions about the CAT 3208 engines here and Mike will try to help you out.

If it stalled a few miles from Where you picked it up and you have fuel in the valley it could well be leaky injection pump seals. The motor draws in what it can from the pump and then an air bubble kills it. If you work the hand pump a while and your battery is good it will go again and be fine until the next time you shut it off. It's a pretty simple fix. Full pump rebuild is not required.

After many videos and moving pipework around, the only place I see it leaking is around the input shaft. I can see a little movement glisten when it cranks. There is a lift pump, so I’m not sure how it would suck air, I might be able to bleed the injector lines. It is possible on the hills it was pulling a vacuum against the dirty racor. It had enough fuel in the valley to concern me, it was dripping out from under the coach when I first noticed it and I probably took a quart out from the valley and surrounding areas.

How much fuel do you have in the tank ?

Sounds like you may have more than one issue.

Bled the injectors and have the motor running. I have to go offshore in a couple days, I may limp it to a storage unit and get a rebuilt pump and deal with it later. I am assuming I should be able to make it a couple of miles.

Check all your options, it could be the throttle body seal, do a Google site search to find a few treads on that subject. If you're a wrench turner you could pull the pump and send it out for a rebuild, but I have heard of guys replacing the throttle body seal while in the bird. That would be your cheapest route. Just thinking here. A rebuilt unit from the Cat dealer will run you upward of 3 grand.

When I had fuel in the valley, after lots of troubleshooting I took it to a shop, It turned out to be a leaking fuel return line. It dropped directly to the valley and left no evidence . The lines in your coach are probably original. The flexible lines meet up with copper or steel lines near the block, cheap and easy to replace the flexible ones, should do it anyway.
