Caterpillar 3208 Solutions This sub-forum is hosted by Mike Hohnstein who has been at this kind of thing for 50+ years now, guess I'm addicted. The saga has been all about progressively larger shop space since then. Honestly, never wanted to get into the CAT 3208's that were originally considered to be a throwaway engine but that's all that works in a FC in my world. Same thing with my Ford toter, that came with a NA, too much effort to hang in a 6, so been at it with the CAT V-8 for 20 years now. In reality you can get excellent life out of a CAT 3208 if it's built correctly. Post your questions about the CAT 3208 engines here and Mike will try to help you out.

Question Adding EGT, where?

Ok, we are working on adding our new instrument gauges to the FC and are having trouble trying to find available exhaust pipe to put the EGT (Exhaust Gas Temperature) probe in. Might have to cut off the heat shield.

Suggestions?

Has anyone else successfully done this on an FC?

Well, he invented new curse words yesterday just removing the air filter assembly from the engine. I suspect the EGT will have to wait. He wants to drop the down tube from the turbo so he can cut away the heat shield and weld the attachment for the EGT probe, then find a way to reinstall it all. Would rather wait to do something like that AFTER the rally, when there is no deadline. We will have the boost gauge hooked up as well as all the other additions, just not the EGT, yet.

Why worry about the EGT?
The coach is 36 years old and never had one yet?
I would replaced the lift pump first.

His paranoia? It's just something he wanted to know, to assess engine health.

No need to remove Turbo or Exhaust pipe. Use this.
