Caterpillar 3208 Solutions This sub-forum is hosted by Mike Hohnstein who has been at this kind of thing for 50+ years now, guess I'm addicted. The saga has been all about progressively larger shop space since then. Honestly, never wanted to get into the CAT 3208's that were originally considered to be a throwaway engine but that's all that works in a FC in my world. Same thing with my Ford toter, that came with a NA, too much effort to hang in a 6, so been at it with the CAT V-8 for 20 years now. In reality you can get excellent life out of a CAT 3208 if it's built correctly. Post your questions about the CAT 3208 engines here and Mike will try to help you out.

Unhappy 3208 temp sensor part number?

Stuff happens
In the process of putting my reman engine back in, we broke of the
12V connector on the temp sensor (bad chain placement ), anyway,
as we were putting all the accessories, wires, and hoses back on today,
we found this problem...there were a few choice words, as you can imagine...

anyway, does anyone have a part number, or can you point me to the
reference diagrams? Should this be a pretty standard part?
First stop at NAPA this afternoon was not productive...

Still optimistic about making it to WOG PM

We actually went to a junkyard this afternoon, but the only sensors we could find were too long...this one is “short”, and it needs to be short to avoid interfering with other parts...

Great news! My mechanic friend, AJ, just found one at a truck parts place in Jacksonville...he had to call about a dozen places to find one, but, now we are back on track. I was panicking...the message here is “stay calm” when doing a transplant AND, watch out how you hook up those chains...whereas, this big piece of iron looks indestructible, there are a few “fragile pieces” too...

Hopefully, by confessing our shortcomings, others will learn
