Default Help with new backup camera and monitor.

I would like to replace the backup camera and monitor, but I would like to have a monitor that would retrofit in the hole the old monitor was in. Does anyone know of a good system that works good with these older Bluebirds.

The PO had already replaced the camera with a cheap security camera so I bought a headrest monitor and used that with the existing wire. I just removed the old monitor, wired a rca type adaptor to the line running from the camera to the monitor, attached a 12v wire and mounted the unit over the existing hole. Works great and the camera and monitor were less than a hundred bucks

There are a few of us using this type of wireless camera system with good success, I currently use one aimed at my hitch to aid in aligning the ball with the coupler on my trailer and I'm in the process of getting the one on the back of my trailer to work after ordering the extension cable for the wireless antenna/transmitter.

This is an economical solution to a wired system that came on your 'Bird, some of the wired cameras available have to be rewired with a new cable from the camera to the monitor, I believe that some just require different ends and this solves those problem...NO WIRES and they work too and give fairly good reception in low light situations, the camera can also be placed inside the same area as the original camera and the wireless monitor can be placed directly over the original monitor and held in place with Velcro, but I chose to mount mine over the inside rear view mirror, as it is easier for me to glance over and see that, just like I would if the rear view mirror was the only thing that I had to view what was behind me to see if I cleared the traffic that I may be passing, rather than looking up at the original monitor position.

If you purchase one of these be sure to get the larger 7 inch monitor. You may still be able to get them at SAM'S Club and at some Auto parts Stores, or you can find them on eBay http://electronics.shop.ebay.com/i.h...286.m270.l1313

I found a nice 8" monitor on eBay and picked up a new camera from Fry's Electronics. To maintain the original "look" of the bus I removed the guts from the old CRT and installed the new TFT Flatscreen. I then removed the guts from the old camera and made a wooded housing to put the new smaller camera inside it. I used the original wiring and simply replaced the ends to match my new setup.

Works great with one small issue.... the image is reversed. Make sure when you do this that you get a monitor that will reverse the images... Mine does not, so I'm now picking up a 7" that will.

I guess I don't have a pic of the monitor but if anyone wants to see it let me know and I'll snap a shot...

Forgot one BIG item.. if you have an external camera like mine get the night vision. If your camera is inside with a glass lense protecting it get a low light but DO NOT get one with IR LEDs. The LEDs will glare off your glass and you won't be happy with it.
