Default Fire

This just happened about 75 yards from me. Fire and police are still here; it was extinguished about 15 minutes ago. Scares the **** out of me, luckily he had no neighbors. I have a 5th wheel about 6 feet from me. I talked to the owner and he had just pulled in. Thinks it may have started in the roof. It went up real fast and lots of toxic smoke. Wind kept it away from my unit.

I guess it was all fiberglass?

It was fiberglass. Don't know if it was generator or not. Owner said he had just pulled in and levelled. He thought it started in the roof but it wasn't warm enough to have a/c running, so I don't know. I saw some smoke curling up from that area and then saw the flames and people running toward the RV. Then running away from the RV as stuff started to explode.

I'll post more pictures but basically the front half of the RV is gone above the floor line.

I had read the earlier posts by Rob and Randy about RV fires but it still doesn't prepare you for the reality. This one burned fast and hot.

Here is a link to all the photos on Flickr. They are in reverse chronological order (just the way Flickr works) so start at the back and scroll forward to see it as it happened. The entire roof was on fire while just the front half was burning, so maybe the owner was right about it starting in the roof, or else the roof just burned a lot faster being exposed to free air.

Richard, you have a gift. Thank you for the photos. Hopefully there were folks there to help those that caught fire. Any news on the owners?

Richard,

That's awesome photography. I really enjoyed the shots of San Francisco. The City Lights Book store and the Vesuvio Cafe brought back memories. Thanks. Dang, I miss that place...

Ernie, last I saw the owner was drinking a beer and seemed to be doing okay. He was taking it well but his wife was a bit weepy. Pretty understandable after such a traumatic experience. The owner gave me his business card and I will send him the photos. They were from Highland just east of LA so not too far from home.

Thanks David. I didn't stop in San Francisco on this trip and I miss it too.
