Default a/t switch

Before I get into these troubles, where is the a/t switch located? I have an 85 PT40.

Default Docking lights, first trip problems

My first trip was from Randy's place in Florida to Terrace BC.

My biggest problem, dang, Why don't I have any power going up this hill?

Oh yes, it really helps to turn off the electric retarder.

A/T switch should be located in the middle of the dash, upper part.

Dummy me, I am signed in as Vadie. No she was not driving, I, Bill was driving.

Question retarder or retarded?

Guess that means I better ask where the electric retarder is! I've only seen my coach 3 times in last 4 mos, and only owned it 5 months! Oh well. So a/t is on dash. Then what is the round key lock located just above the doorbell outside the entry door?

The switch for the retarder is on the console to the left of the pilot on my 90. The round key above the door bell is for the security alarm. THe retarder itself is a component of the transmission that provides breaking force. When activated and working properly it engages in consort with the brakes using the floor pedal and there is an additional hand control that works it seperately.

The round keylock is for your security alarm. Do you have a round key for the lock?

Red face retarder retarded!

I guess I'm just automatically retarded when it comes to this beast, Randy! And I thought I was mechanically inclined until I bought this beast! Every time I visit it to answer questions raises more questions! Thanks all for your answers. Yes, I do have the round keys. I've figured out from these answers that anti-theft and security are separate systems. One for intruder alerts, one for defeating coach theft. Now I must go back and look for the retarder switch to see if I've had it engaged all this time!

the good thing is this forum can help you through the learning curve! a few years ago you would have really been in trouble!
i'm sure your retarder only works when you are off the throttle,or on the brakes.
Maybe shane will pop in and tell us how it works.
