The tag says it's an 82, no need for decoder rings.

Needed the decoder ring to say for sure that it was an FC3407.

Hello Patrick, it's possible the starter itself has shorted. Pull the small wires off of the starter and try reconnecting the battery. If starter still engages it needs at least a new solenoid. Try to rig a way with jumper cables so you are not making the connection at the batter itself. Not good to have sparks around a battery.
