Unhappy INSTRUMENT AND LIGHT QUESTION

On my 1983 fc there is a box, part of the dash that has a light marked, bulk oil air pressure light. What is it and what does it tell ? Also under the engine cover there is a gage that has numbers around the outer rim and two pointers as well as an odometer like on the lower part of the face and what looks like an electric motor attached, whats it for and do ?. I bought this sight unseen from an auction, no time to fly up to ind. To see it, whoa is me, pride of ownership over shadowed good sense. Thnx for the help. No one in the socentral part of texas wants to work on this unit and this 94 yr. Old is trying. Norm miller

Norman,

On my 83 FC there is a bulk oiler for adding oil to the engine. There is a tank in the propane compartment that you can fill with oil. There is a switch there that pressurizes the tank with air when the system is aired up. If it is pressurized the light you mentioned should light. There is a device in the engine compartment that looks a little like a nozzle at a gas station. This would allow you to open the oil filler on the valve cover, stick in the hose at the end of this nozzle and add oil. The gauge you noticed would allow you to meter how much oil you are adding.

Many people take this system out to save weight. That may explain why the only parts remaining in your bus are the light and the gauge.

I have never used mine. My Cat 3208 doesn't use much oil and it is no problem to pour it in from the gallon jug I buy at Walmart.

Hope you feel free to ask any other questions, as I know I had tons when I first got mine.

the thing under the cat house is a meter,it meters the amount of oil you add.
Don't throw the meter away,if you take it out.
Someone will want it.

I love mine...especially when it is raining.

I have to laugh about saving weight!

I am considering simplifying a bit. I'd like to purchase a CAT oil fill plug and modify it to accept a 1/4" tube welded in place. The short tube stub on the oil fill plug would be connected to a hose run directly to a simple manual valve at the oil meter output. In other words, eliminate "the wand" in the system.
