It looks like getting a sample from the dipstick is common.
did you run the engine?

Agree, needs to be hot after a run , to suspend the particles in the fluid
this may be the only way to pick up coolant and metal particles. Coolant lays on the bottom.
Even then it is wise to sample several oil change intervals after mileage is put on the engine,
Even then it is not always accurate. Different labs may have different readings.
So, use the same lab for all testing,
This is also somewhat true for blood testing. Use the same lab

I take my oil samples from the oil filter when I remove and replace it.

When buying a used vehiclelook for a reason to not buy the unit. If you find lots of reasons run as fast as you can. Look for a better unit.

Hi all, so after much thought and talking with wife we went head and got the 83 PT. So time will tell.

Went out help owner get it started, after hook my vacuum pump up to second fuel filter and priming fuel pump, and few cycles of turning engine over fire right off and didn’t smoke. Let idled and air up. We drove it 40 miles to my house with out a problem. So let the work begin.

First off fix all leak, second need to replace oil, tires, air bags and check brakes. As I go I’m making list of all the little things. And my wife is making her list. Looks like I have a busy next 4 months, want it safe and Mechnical ready to go to south Texas for thanksgiving, maybe. If not still have truck and camper.

Thanks all for your input.

Was this the one sitting in the Mt. Olive storage lot in Duarte? If it is, I saw it as I drove by it picking up a U-haul car transport at that place. I was out there moving my aunt from Pasadena back to Indiana to be near me. It looked like one that was exposed to the weather in the storage lot, but I guessed it should clean up well. Good luck with the new purchase.
