Default Starting anew ---

Regarding my opening posting, I cannot say cutting the alternator output wouldn't stop the motor, because it turns out I cut my starter cable instead. LOL

Hopefully the guys at Auragen can show me what you all mean by the pictures etc you've conveyed. (Thanks very much, by the way.) I may even be able to figure it out for myself in a bit.

There's just one thing I forgot to ask, apparently, and I'll start a new thread to ask it up front, and here it is: Having drained the motor of fuel, and gotten all the wires reconnected that I previously disconnected, how do I get the motor to start again? The starter turns over, but the 10 gall of fuel I just added apparently hasn't made its way to the motor. How do you prime this engine?

Just went through this last month. Bracket came loose and wouldn't allow the cutoff solenoid to engage. Of course Mom was 300 miles away when it happened - **** you Murphy! I had to try to come up with a fix and email her (and my Cousin) these pics/directions so they could get it to shut down. After several hours of running finally got it to turn off. Here's some pics and links to help and to picture what it looks like on the engine:

Default Getting back to normal ....

Thanks to everybody for telling me how to stop this motor in an emergency. I have pushed the fuel shutoff in the correct direction and that did it. I'll post some pix eventually after I get over my relief to have this solved and dry my sweat. Currently each time I turn on the motor eventually leads to the emergency situation of how to turn it off. So it's good to know how to turn it off in an emergcy.

It would also be nice to know how to turn it off with the key and without opening the doghouse. The reference to a solenoid having a tendency to go loose implies either tightening will fix it or else replacement of the solenoid will fix it? Please clarify.

In our case the Coach would just shut off while driving down the road. Solenoid. The fuel cutoff solenoid was replaced 16 months ago while out in Az. Last month the triangular shaped bracket (one that looks bolted to the side of the block) came loose. I have no clue where the bolts made off to. Anyway with that bracket only being held on by the lower part of the solenoid there's nothing to shut down the motor. Turn the key off, disconnect the battery's, etc... nothing will kill it short of manually activating that solenoid or cutting fuel to the motor and waiting for it to run out. Manipulate the solenoid and at least you don't have to reprime the 6CTA.

Default solenoid.... What solenoid?

Thanks for the pix showing the fuel pump solenoid. Is it possible to have a fuel pump without a solenoid? I see no such thing on my cummins 8.3
Could the Auragen guys be right in saying the vibration of the cummins may loosen solenoid equipped fuel pumps so that the solenoid falls off? Should I be looking for a solenoid in a store instead of on my motor? - Maybe I need to ante up and get the owner's manual for this motor....

Default cable routing

What do the ends of such a cable connect to? Maybe there was one that's there no more? At the least it's not performing its function. Thanks again already.

one end hooks o the injector pump linkage, the other will have a knob or handle so you can pull it,just like a choke cable in the old days.

Default to solenoid or not to solenoid ....

Having pulled the linkage a few times, I agree it turns off the motor, so such a cable would certainly work. But if you want to impress the passengers and turn the thing off with the key, do you need a solenoid?
