Default Top Hats vs Hub Caps

Anyone using Hub Caps vs Top Hats on your drive & tag axles?

The 1987 Pusher with the 8V92 has the Rockwell R-125-NX-8 Rear Axel. Anyone know the hub/cup assemble diameter? I could remove the top hats and measure but thought I'd ask here first.

Any particular reason other than personal preference?

Our top hats were held on with a ring behind the lug nuts. The wheel mfg. suggest not using these. And, after removing and re-installing the wheels the rings get warped and look bad.

Looks good Curt!!

FWIW: My BMC with the larger upgraded axle on the 1997 chassis came with High Hats. They are held on by foam rings and not the lug nuts. The foam on mine has deteriorated and I needed new foam rings. I discovered they are made by Real Wheels. I ordered new foam for mine from Real Wheels

Can you provide us with the part number and your source for purchase? Others may want to go this route, like me.

Same as Brad. RealWheels.com http://www.realwheels.com/

I ordered 4 ea. (PT = 2 rear axles) rear axle SS Baby Moons – RW7070, $15.70 ea.

60 ea. (PT = 3 axles) lug nut covers SS 1-1/2” - RW5615, $1.65 ea.

I called 847 662-7722 (and ordered) to be sure I was buying the right parts.

The Baby Moons Push-on an axle that have the studs/nuts showing. The drive axle on my coach.

My tag has Stemco covers and Bolts. The Moons would not push on. I marked the bolt high spots, removed them, ground off the high spots, and reinstalled. A couple iterations of this and the Moons pushed on. This took a few minutes but not bad. I'm not sure if that is the way to go but will find out when I head out on the road Saturday. Might be better to buy studs/nuts to replace the bolts and be like the drive axle.

Curt,

This is excellent information and since this topic actually covers more than just a PT I moved it over to
Wanderlodge Owners Group > Mechanic's Corner > Tires, Wheels, Brakes, Steering and Suspensions > Top Hats vs Hub Caps

It also has a permanent redirect to it from your original thread and also will have a Sticky feature to it so it should be easier to find in the future.

Default Baby Moons, Etc.

Today, I was hit for Moons & Lug Nuts that I did on our coach...so I responded with the following:

RealWheels Corporation http://www.realwheels.com/ 3940 Tannahill Drive
Gurnee, IL 60031 USA 1-800-982-1180 (U.S. Only) 1-847-662-7722 Fax 847-662-7744

I Called and ordered the following:
Baby Moons:
4 each 5/8” stud rear axle SS Baby Moons RW7070, $15.70 each. For 3/4″ Studs order RW7270. http://www.realwheels.com/product/baby-moons/

Lug Nut Covers:
60 each 1-½”, Stainless Steel Height 2” covers RW5615. http://www.realwheels.com/product/lug-nut-covers/ Order a few spares too.

WOG Site Info is here http://www.wanderlodgeownersgroup.co...ighlight=moons. I see I incorrectly posted the Lug Nut Cover #, just sent John Finn a request to revise post #8 Lug Nut Cover part number to be RW5615 as stated above.

See Post # 2 photos.

At that this weekends campout...folks walked up and asked how I did the the no hats and the moons/nuts. Seems pretty straight forward to me...
