I did a lot of research online and I don't think it will be a bombtastic fire hazard. It's a simple device, Webasto is way too proud of their units, and I refuse to pay insane prices for 15 year old NOS units or used ones. I hate to send money directly to China for anything, but in this case I have talked myself into it.

I might also put together an isolated coolant loop to keep the waste tanks warm using this. I have to figure out how I want to implement it on the tanks though. I envision stainless steel tubing bent into loops on the bottom of the tanks and covered with some robust insulating layer. And maybe a few wraps around the dump valves, too.
I’ve looked at those units, I’m interested to hear your experience and see you install.

The Chicom one I bought was $400 brand new and appears to match the DBW in build quality and design, but remains to be seen. There's no reason a DBW should cost $3000 and they recently plead guilty to price fixing and had to pay $15M in fines. Here's that story I also believe Webasto is having most or all of their parts made in China and just marking them way up just like a lot of American companies do now.
Mine will never sell now...
