The road from Yellowknife, NWT back to the Alaska highway (Waterfalls Highway and Liard Trail). The Campbell highway from Watson Lake, YK to Carmacks, YK. The Top of the World Highway from Dawson City, YK to the US/Canada border and Chicken, AK. These were all gravel. Would have preferred to have pavement, but the lack of traffic and sensational scenery made it worthwhile. Everyone must make their own decisions as to where they want to drive their Birds, but other than needing a through cleaning when we get home, our LXI has handled the trip without any issues.

i am with Jim,we have been all over the north on dirt or gravel roads,no problems at all.
Everything will wash off!

Has anyone traveled any significant sections of US 2 along the route from U.P., Michigan to Everette, Washington. We're looking for any thoughts, comments - good or bad - about travelling this route. Our plan is to more or less follow the US/Canada border, and generally, stay off the Interstate highways. We'll be pulling our toad, too.

If you wish to contact us directly, please use our email.
Thanks in advance for your insights!
I have some property about 1/4 mile north of Hwy 2 in the little town of Brule, Wisconsin which is about 20 mile east of Superior. Taxes are about $135.00/year so we just hang on to it Happy travels!

Good points, all. Sounded like a couple posts were poking a little fun at Jim. Glad to know I don't have to avoid gravel roads. So just to clarify: I don't need to be concerned about dust getting sucked into the engine?

We have followed each other, in turn, with dust blowing above the roof lines. The Air Cleaners do the job they were designed to do and keep the air intake clean.

We have been down roads so dusty we had to get out and clean off each other’s brake lights at each stop! But it is all worth the adventures! These beauties were made to travel!

There was one stretch of road so dusty we had to have a local farmer plow the dust to the ditch.

But,then it rained and the road was muddy!
But,a lot of the fuel stops have free wash when you buy fuel,we spent 2 hours in the wash bay, washing the car and the bus, they don't care how long you stay in the wash bays.

Just an update on the request about US 2 across the upper US. We have just traveled it from Montana to the UP of Michigan and it is a great road. Very little traffic and lots of nice and inexpensive city campgrounds. If you are not in a hurry and prefer to be off interstates we highly recommend it.
