Default Continuous chime from shift pad

Down shifted to 4 before downward grade. Rpms were low. Shift pad started a continuous chime. Put it back into D doesn’t stop it. Pulled over let it cool down. Still chimes when put in D when parked. Pressed 1 2 3 4 D and it stopped. Drove 50 miles and downshifted into 4 again and started to chime.
Pulled over now trying to figure out what’s going on.
Fluid is full.
Transmission usually runs at 170 degrees. Started to climb. Pulled over at 200.

Thoughts

Also no have a clunking noise from the passenger side front wheel when I step on the brakes.

This hill killed me

96 WB40 8v92
Allison HT 755 with magnetic retarder

RPMs were around 1600 as I remember. No high rpm shift
Retarder was on in enable mode

What is the continuous chime mean?

What is the proper sequence to initiate the trans check button?
It is in the down position currently

And the clunking noise from passenger front wheel turned out to be the slack adjuster. Teeth are worn and it is backing off as I drive. Getting it replaced now.
In stock part at California Truck Center. San Luis Obispo.

Just a guess but my first thought is that a shift pad push button might be stuck. Membrane problem?

To retrieve codes:

1. Start the vehicle and run the engine at idle with the shift selector in neutral.

2. Place and hold the Electronic Control test switch in the on position.

3. The Check Transmission light will flash the most important diagnostic code if one is present.
(Example: flash-pause-flash-flash-flash indicates Code 13).

NOTE: The Check Transmission light will not flash if no codes are present. There is no Code 25 for No Codes as in DDEC.

John
I will check for stuck buttons today. I drove 14 hours yesterday and just left it in D. Didn’t want to push my luck. Grades were not to bad so it worked out. I will start testing it for function on Monday when I leave. I will also check for codes today.

Thanks for the check trans switch instructions.

I think you solved it. No codes from trans check button. But continuous chime sounds just like the single chime when you shift gears. I pressed all the buttons 20 times or so to get a feel if one felt stuck or wrong. None did. But today I drove about 250 miles and it down shifted with no chime. Problem solved. THANKS JOHN!
