Before I retired from the Navy we got called into a all hands brief. CO said we could no longer call the head a head, a HumVee a hummer, and a bunch of other stupid things. I'm sure tranny would have been on the list if it was a Navy thing.

We old timers looked at each other and sighed. When i retired I was with a bunch of others who got out the day they hit 20. I did a bit more. We all agreed the modern Navy was sick. I mean when I was in boot camp (80s) they still laid hands (hit) us lol. I walked on the COs grass once and wound up in a rose bush courtesy of a CPO. I did something else stupid and got an elbow to the solar plexus to remember. Today they have stress cards to pull out in boot to avoid the pain.

Thanks all. This is looking pretty good. Of course, time will tell if they got it, but Larry has an uncanny interest in figuring out problems. He stayed late to accommodate me, and went to work the next day.

The price I paid is less than Four Star Trucking (Albany GA) and WW Williams charged me to evaluate the problem. AND my price in Jax included $100 worth of diesel fuel.

I’m not sure if the roll pin is factory. In fact, I believe it was added some years ago to secure some kind of spring assembly inside the retarder. There is no evidence that the retarder has failed. We’re going to leave the retarder alone.

I’ve asked Larry to look closely at hoses, lines, etc. He’s replacing one hose that will be an additional charge.

Thanks to all who offered help and advice. Fingers crossed
