Yup, I agree. Today I lifted one side of the rear axle and marked the wheel & drive shaft. 2 full turns of the wheel shows 4.89 (just under 5 turns of the drive shaft)

So I'll get a 3rd method to check the tach, maybe it's not linear? I did validate the speed with a GPS so that's good. Seems the rpm is the only possible explanation?

Monark makes a hand-held laser tach that’s easy to use.

Default 4th gear.

Mike, is your transmission not going into 4th gear? Stuck in 3rd?
2600 rpm, could drop a valve perhaps, not pretty to watch.

That seems to be the current consensus is that there maybe a linkage issue causing it not to go into 4th? That would explain the rpm's I've been seeing and why they're not matching any charts.

It'll be a few days before I can pull the bus out again but the throttle cable was replaced before I bought the bus and I found it set too loose so not getting full throttle. I tightened it up a lot but the shifting has been a little difficult before/after I did that. It even downshifts a little too soon too.

So next time I get to the bus I'll be focusing on the rpm per gear when it shifts and document that. Looks like there are a few adjustments I need to research for the throttle & tranny.

Just from curiosity what rpm do most people see when they find their "sweet spots" on the 250T?

OK, Finally got some bus time and it is indeed not shifting in to 4th gear! Here's the shift patterns I observed;

Gear - RPM - Speed
1 - - 2700 - - 12
2 - - 2900 - - 26
3 - - 2900 - - 36
3L- - 3000 - - 44
4 - never shifts again.

Top speed in 3rd lockup is 60mph @ 3000 rpm. So now I know what I'm troubleshooting so that's a good start!

Congratulations. You be surprised what you can stuff onto 1/4 acre. It’s all a matter to me (and the county) it all looks pretty.

Jacked the bus up and pulled out the governor. I tested it and it's working fine. I was so hoping for that to be the issue. Today I'll check linkage adjustments but now it's sounding like a stuck valve body? I'll also replace the filter and fluid before I give up and take her to Allison.

Check out this video, complete teardown of MT643... I am guessing that is the trans your FC.

https://youtu.be/VaDNzkWeeqY

Sounds like you definitely need to check the shift linkage adjustment and make sure its getting into the correct detent for 4th. This is something I noticed on my PT, the shift linkage is not very precise and I think it needs adjustment. Hope that is the problem... The governor looks like it could be the next suspect..
