The BMC program was just abut perfect for the SP.
We had a guy that would do the programn work at that time, but he will not do it today.

that's what I'm worried about with the 3060. sounds like the better trans, but more money / time / lack of a guaranteed shop to program / modifications down the road.

I ended up buying a used rebuilt DT466 and mt643 a few weeks back. And while discussing my desire for a 3060, a friend of a friend said they have a shop that can tune the PCM for a 3060 to go behind a DT466 and be used in my bird. I'm going to get in touch with them in the next week or two to see if there is any truth to that. If so I have someone who already wants to buy the mt643 and would pick up a 3060

They're cheap on eBay, I wouldn't sell any I have for that amount. Of course mine are fresh, used is a shot in the dark. Still have to locate the harness and TPS.

With a 4.31 I'm doing 65 at right under 2400...

Chris:

Cummins has an interesting program on their Crate 2.8 Diesel site that does the math and you can create lots of what-if scenarios. Although the program uses the drive tire diameter for its calculations, I think a more accurate calculation would be based on the loaded tire radius (LTR), or revolutions per mile.

I spoke to the shop today, and while they don't support the 3060, they said the allison 2000 series would do everything I needed it to with the DT466 in front of it. They build harnesses and program the PCM, have shifters / lock-out shifters for it, and could easily set it up for my needs. They said it was rated conservatively by Allison at 32k lb load, and they have lots of people with heavier set-ups that it works fine in. I am waiting for another md trans buddy to confirm if it'll handle the weight / engine / towing I'm wanting to do. Around $2,500 for the harness / pcm / tuning / shifter etc. Recommended a triple converter for $1,500, and they sell reman units that use OEM parts (no chinese junk) for $4k-5k or so.

Mike, what are your thoughts since you are a trans guru? Do you feel that the 2000 series would be a good choice for the DT466 in a 78 FC 33'?

They don't work on a 3000, but they are sure a 2000 is OK for you? My sniffer is going off...

They specialize in the 2000's. The issue they (and seemingly everyone else) have is that Allison won't support the programming on the 3060. Nobody can seem to reprogram it, unless its still in a factory application, and even then its iffy. They can build a harness that will work properly with the 2000, but again without programming / tuning on the PCM for that specific application, no point in getting the 3060 or the harness for it.
