Default Interesting topic.

OK,heres something i have been thinking about.
ALL men want more horsepower, but some times a deal comes up on an FC with the small 210hp Cat engine.
Theres a cherry 79 31 foot FC for sale,it has new paint ($18,000 worth),new tires and alloy wheels, its like new inside, this thing is super nice.

The only bad thing is its a springer and has a 210hp engine.

Now heres what i see, buyers looking for an FC with a 250 horse engine, and they find one that needs paint, tires, the wheels are rough, the inside needs work and they still buy it,simply because it has 250hp!!

So,why not buy a cherry FC with new paint, new tires, new wheels and put a 250 horse engine in it?
You can put a 250hp engine in it for less money that a premium paint job!

This sounds exactly like my situation with my 79 FC35RB
I believe its only the 210HP. I figured I can spend the money on a really nice looking RV with the lower HP engine and just upgrade it later if I really feel like I need it. Or just leave it as is if I decide I feel its ok.
That or spend the same amount on one with the 250HP and put the money into refinishing the interior.

Honestly I feel swapping an engine is easier than redoing the entire interior!
Also as it is its ready to go, where as if the interior needed a lot of work I wouldn't really be inclined to use it

I think I will be keeping the 210HP though because it an the transmission was apparently rebuilt not too long ago so it would be kind of silly to take something that's all ready to go out and put something else in.
Just going to have to get used to cruising at 55 MPH as its geared a little low for 65 I think.

Change the rear gear to a 4.88, cruise @ 65, NAs run a bit more RPM than turbos.

What's the hurry? I'd much rather have "Nice" than "Fast" I really don't see changing an engine for 40hp. If I was going to go to the trouble of changing an engine it would be to double the HP.
I'd find a wrecked Duramax/Allison or something.

The less weight 210NA springer owners have always boasted better MPG.
Some say even 10 at a lower speed, especially a 31 footer.

Just curious,

Is it really possible to get a 250hp 3208, installed, for $12,000?

We both know the 3208 springer once owned by the eye doctor, from Pgh.
My Friend the new owner also says 10 and this is a mechanic I know and trust. Maybe except I 68 headed east towards Hagerstown, which he travels often and will not tell the speed or MPG.

The simplistic value of a early springer and NA 3208 is worth a lot in the cost of operation and ownership, Not to mention the AWE factor. It seems like everywhere I go, everybody wants to see it , touch it, and talk about it. Thats priceless.
I like the ride and the experience of the journey, but what is really cool is when I pull into a park, I always get to park in the front row! Love the big bus's, I want to have one some day, but whenever we're in a crowd of BB's, everybody likes to hang out under my awning!
